Jason Mraz

Jason Mraz' Early Career:

  Jason Mraz, born June 23, 1977, grew up in Virginia. He was heavily influenced early on by the music of the Dave Matthews Band. Following high school, Mraz moved to New York to study at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. In 1999 he headed to the west coast and settled in San Diego, California. There Mraz became part of the local coffeehouse scene. Eventually, he began gaining a following in Los Angeles as well.

Major Label Contract and Hit Single:

In 2002 Elektra Records signed Jason Mraz to a major label contract. He recorded his first album Waiting for My Rocket to Come. The sound was a mixture of folk, jazz, and hip hop. The single "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)" was co-written with the Matrix and became a top 20 pop single. The song was inspired by a friend's struggle with cancer and the impact it had on Mraz' outlook on life.

Jason Mraz Is the "Geek In the Pink":

In 2005 Jason Mraz was the opening act for Alanis Morissette on tour. At the end of the summer his second album Mr. A-Z was released and debuted in the top 5 of the Billboard album chart. It included the successful single "Geek in the Pink."

Top 10 Smash:

In 2008, Jason Mraz released his 3rd major label album We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. The music included on this collection was originally released in 3 separate EP's for a limited period of time. They were titled We Sing, We Dance, and the 3rd was We Steal Things. The album included the single "I'm Yours. At the end of the summer the song became Mraz' first top 10 pop single. Eventually "I'm Yours" spent a record breaking 76 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. "I'm Yours" won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Male Vocal Peformance. Jason Mraz also won another Grammy for his collaboration with Colbie Caillat on "Lucky."

"I Won't Give Up":

In the fall of 2011 Jason Mraz headed out on tour and performed a number of new songs, some of which will be featured on his next studio album due for a February 2012 release. One of the songs which received very positive responses from audiences was "I Won't Give Up." It was released as a digital single to open 2012 and debuted at #1 on the digital sales chart for its first week of release.
